Technology & Wi-Fi¶
Wi-Fi¶
No credentials in this repository
The Wi-Fi network name and password are never stored in this public repository. See Before You Come for how they're provided.
The house runs a mesh Wi-Fi network for good coverage throughout — several units working together rather than one router. Please don't unplug, move, or reset any of the network equipment; if one part goes offline it can take the whole network down, and it's not something that can always be fixed remotely during your stay.
TV¶
The three TVs in the house (one in each living area, one in the main bedroom) are all Samsung Frame TVs.
- Feel free to add your own streaming service. If you do, sign out again before you leave.
- You can cast video content from your phone to the TVs.
- ABC and SBS both have good libraries online if you're after something different.
- Being Frame TVs, they display artwork when not in use, then turn to a black screen a few minutes after the room lights are turned off.
- Want a black screen straight away instead of the artwork? Press and hold the power button on the remote for about 5 seconds.
Sound¶
There are SONOS speakers through the house.
- The Spotify app can cast directly to the speakers.
- To group speakers together, install the SONOS app on your mobile device.
Be a good neighbour
Please keep the volume at a reasonable level when using the SONOS speakers.
Smart Lighting¶
The lamps all have smart globes (TP-Link Tapo), controllable two ways:
- Tapo app — change brightness and colour from your phone.
- Voice control — see Alexa & Voice Control below.
A lamp flashing when you switch it on?
That usually just means it's been factory-reset — a previous guest or a power blip can trigger it. No need to try and fix it yourself; just leave it and use a different lamp or the switch. The owners can reconfigure it later.
Alexa & Voice Control¶
There's an Alexa device in every room. Besides voice control, they'll show you the weather and time at a glance.
Alexa can control, house-wide:
- Lighting — the Tapo smart lamps
- Air conditioning — each AC has a Sensibo controller, so Alexa can turn it on/off and set the temperature (see below)
Voice commands (lighting)
"Hey Alexa, turn on the lights"
"Hey Alexa, turn off the lights"
"Hey Alexa, turn on all the lights"
"Hey Alexa, set the lights to warm white"
"Hey Alexa, set the lights to green"
Each room page also has its own voice-command cheat sheet for that room's specific AC and lighting, e.g. "Hey Alexa, turn on the Main bedroom AC" — see House Guide.
Air Conditioning (Sensibo)¶
Most bedrooms and the upstairs living area have air conditioning, each fitted with a Sensibo controller that's what makes Alexa voice control possible.
Flinders bedroom has no air conditioning
Worth knowing when choosing a room, especially over summer.
Alexa can turn a room's AC on or off and set the temperature — see the individual room pages for the exact phrasing that works in each one.
Other Technology¶
- Xbox — a white Xbox is set up in the Downstairs Living Room for guests to use. It looks to be about 10 years old and is believed to be an Xbox One-generation console rather than the current generation — exact model still to be confirmed.
- Nintendo Switch — there's a dock for a first-generation Nintendo Switch, also in the Downstairs Living Room. Exactly what's provided alongside the dock (console, joy-cons, games) is still being confirmed.
